Specify a felt polishing wheel by its construction, outside diameter, working width or thickness, mounting dimensions and confirmed material grade. Include units for every dimension. A label such as “4 inch” or “25 mm” alone does not tell a supplier which feature is being measured or whether the wheel fits your machine.
Use a dimensioned description
For a bore-mounted wheel, separate outside diameter, thickness and bore diameter. For a mounted head, give head diameter, head length and shank diameter. Mark the feature on a drawing when the shape is unusual. Do not assume that a catalog number represents the outside diameter.
Distinguish nominal names from accepted dimensions
An inch-based product name may describe a nominal market size. The supplied dimensions and tolerance need written confirmation. If your machine or packaging requires an exact size, state that requirement and its acceptance method rather than relying on an approximate conversion in a title.
Define grade without guessing from appearance
Ask for the supplier’s felt grade or hardness/density designation and how repeat deliveries are identified. A photograph may show color and shape but does not verify composition, hardness or an operating rating. Keep sample approval connected to the written specification.
Make every order line independently readable
Mixed orders should have one line per size and construction. Record the unit, quantity, packaging and reference drawing for each line. A later change to bore, backing or felt grade should be reviewed as a specification change, even when the product name remains the same.

Questions buyers ask
Does 25 mm always mean wheel diameter?
No. It could refer to a different feature. Ask for a drawing or labeled measurement before ordering.
Can an image prove that two wheels are identical?
No. Verify dimensions, material grade, construction and mounting in addition to the image.
